csv formátum a CSV (eng. Comma Separated Values ) formátumból szármozik. A formátumban a „túl népszerű” vessző helyett alkalmazzuk a ritkább | ( „pipe” ) karaktert. Sorok vége chr(13)+chr(10) {CR,LF}. Feltételezzük, hogy ezek a karakterek nem lehetnek máshol ( pl. szöveg részeként ). Ha szerepelnek, el kell távolítani őket vagy más formátumot kell alkalmazni, pl. XML-t 2. Szekciók
Minden fájl szekciókra van bontva. Minden szekció Szekció fejléccel kezdődik, ezután jön a szekció teste. A szekció fejléce tartalmaz: szekció megnevezést ( szögletes zárójelben ) a szekció mezők listája, elválasztva „|” karakterrel. szekció megnevezése plusz _VALUES, szögletes zárójelben értékek „|” karakterrel elválasztva.
