BASE 8 is a kit manufactured by Optima Ovest to specifically allow pharmacists to easily prepare suspensions of Omeprazole and Lansoprazole.
BASE 8 is a pleasant tasting, sweetened, raspberry and marshmallow flavoured suspending base which contains only 7.3mg/mL of Na+ compared with Sodium Bicarbonate 8.4% solution which contains 23mg/mL of Na+.
The excellent taste of BASE 8 will increase the rate of compliance with the taking of oral suspensions of Omeprazole and Lansoprazole, especially with paediatric patients.
The alkaline pH of BASE 8, stabilised with sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, maintains the stability of extemporaneously compounded suspensions of Omeprazole and Lansoprasole when stored under refrigeration
As the BASE 8 kit contains everything you need to compound an Omeprazole or
Lansoprazole suspension, there is no need to; * Purchase bottles and child resistant caps, * Provide a syringe or press in bottle adapter, * Use Purified Water to reconstitute product, * Use Sodium Bicarbonate solutions for compounding.
Suspensions can be compounded by weighing the required Omeprazole or Lansoprazole powder directly into the empty graduated bottle provided or by crushing tablets.
(Powder or tablets are not supplied in the kit).
About 2mL of Glycerol BP is required to slurry the active pharmaceutical ingredient to form a homogeneous suspension. (More glycerol may be required if using tablets to form the slurry.)
INGREDIENTS Purified Water BP, Glycerol BP pH Adjustment:
Calcium Carbonate BP, Sodium Bicarbonate BP
Xanthan Gum BP, Maize Starch and Pregelatinised
Hydroxybenzoate BP, Ethyl Hydroxybenzoate

*Each kit contains - 105mL of BASE 8. - Empty 100mL amber plastic bottle (graduations from
30mL up to 100mL in 5mL graduations) supplied with a child resistant cap. - Press in bottle adapter for use with the oral dose syringe. - 3mL oral dose syringe. - Wheel tip stand for syringe.
Shaped like a wagon wheel, the stand provides a solid base for standing the oral syringe
on a bench top after filling where it can be easily handled to administer the medication.
The large wheel tip stand will not fit into a child's airway, therefore eliminating a serious choking hazard.
- Package insert for the Pharmacist (compounding instructions). - Package insert for the Patient.
- Stirrer for compounding the Omeprazole or Lansoprazole suspension. - Zip lock bag for presentation of the completed preparation to the patient. HOW TO USE The BASE 8 kit can be used to compound between 30mL to 100mL of an extemporaneous suspension of Omeprazole or Lansoprazole. BASE 8 will easily
suspend up to 10mg/mL of Omeprazole or Lansoprazole when prepared from the powder and up to 2mg/mL when prepared from crushed tablets. (Higher concentrations using the crushed tablets would need to be evaluated by the dispensing Pharmacist due to the increased viscosity of the product from the powder mass).
BASE 8 can be used to prepare Omeprazole and Lansoprazole suspensions for Paediatric, Geriatric, Nasogastric use and for post-operative gastric acid reduction. BASE 8 suspending solution is free of ethanol, colour, gluten, sugar, sorbitol and is low in sodium (7.3mg/mL Na+). Product Code: BASE008
