• Jesus is God in human form and perfect humanity • Jesus’ life on earth is our complete model • Over 20 times, Jesus said “Follow me” – he I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12)

• Jesus freely chose to go to the cross “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life (psuche) – only to take it up again.” (John 10:17) Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life (psuche) will lose it, but whoever loses his life (psuche) for me will find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25) “One terrible day, the burden seemed to become too great for me - I could bear it no longer: I came in from my work, and with heavy steps went straight up to my bedroom, threw myself on my knees by my bedside, and sobbed out the whole wretched tale to me to Jesus. I told Him how I had tried and tried to be good, and to get peace - and begged Him to take me as I was, and just let me be His child henceforth - I was so tired of myself. Perhaps the surrender was so complete, the trusting Him so real - for, there and then, as I knelt, light came, and a calm peace entered into my very being. He revealed Himself, and I knew Him!” Susanna Spencer, My Life, (1917), p7

would resurrect him (body and psuche). His zoe is indestructible.
• When you become a Christian, you lay down
your psuche in faith that God will raise it up again and also give you his zoe life – all because of what Jesus has done.

35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask." 36 "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked. 37 They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory." 38 "You don’t know what you are asking," Jesus said. "Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptised with the baptism I am baptised with?" 39 "We can," they answered. Jesus said to them, "You will drink the cup I drink and be baptised with the baptism I am baptised with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared." 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch." 35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. 36 "Abba, Father," he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."
Following Jesus symbolised by Baptism – Romans 6
3 …don’t you know that all of us who were baptised into Christ Jesus were baptised into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life (zoe). …John can boldly write: "Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin . he cannot sin" (1 John 3:9), which is, however, a statement that, wrongly understood, may easily mislead us. By it John is not telling us that sin is now no longer in our history and that we shall not again commit sin. He is saying that to sin is not in the nature of that which is born of God. The life of Christ has been planted in us by new birth and its nature is not to commit sin. But there is a great difference between the nature and the history of a thing, and there is a great difference between the nature of the life within us and our history.
