Pharmacies are mandated to record pseudoephedrine-based medicine sales to customers, and PharmaTrackimproves the process of selling these products by electronically capturing all required sales information andstoring it in a secure, encrypted format.
“The tracking of pseudoephedrine sales is a proven way to combat meth production and make our communitiessafer,” said Ron Smith, president and CEO of BAC, “but creating manual logbooks is very time consuming for thepharmacy staff, and rudimentary data files are not an effective method given the technology available today. PharmaTrack offers greater accuracy of the information collected, provides greater flexibility for data aggregation, and improves pharmacy productivity by providing a significantly faster sales transaction.”
With PharmaTrack, complete data logging for most transactions takes less than 30 seconds. The PharmaTrackterminal enables automatic capture of required customer ID information from a driver license using its magneticstripe or barcode. The product information is also logged automatic ally by scanning its UPC. A complete record ofthis data, along with the time/date of purchase and the clerk ID number, is then saved to the pharmacy’sPharmaTrack database. PharmaTrack also offers an up-to-date federal and state law compliance assessmentthrough a nationwide system service. In addition, it can be used to track other pharmaceutical purchases for usein prescription management programs.
“The use of PharmaTrack benefits all parties,” said Smith. “It provides pharmacies greater efficiency and security, and it offers consumers a faster, easier purchase experience and it enables law enforcement to better monitorfrequent purchasers.”
PharmaTrack will be demonstrated by BAC at the Food Marketing Institute’s (FMI) MARKETECHNICS® 2008trade event being held May 4-7, 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. BAC’s pharmacysolutions were selected by FMI to be featured in the Heath & Wellness Tour taking place during the conference.
